Seilevel - Austin, TX

Infuriation: positioning a completely unqualified recruiter in judgment position, and falsely claiming to have a "rigorous" interviewing system with "up to half the staff" participating

Seilevel is a niche company whose focus is deriving software requirements for client companies. This requires a high degree of professional expertise in software design and development, good client engagement skills, and critical-thinking analytical skills. Two senior Seilevel employees had the nerve to boast online in a LinkedIn forum that their "rigorous" interviewing skills involved "up to half the staff" in making these critical hiring decisions.

Those are false statements. Instead, Seilevel has stood up a completely unqualified person, Betsy Spang, to sit in judgment of resumes and experiences which she cannot interpret. Betsy has no business experience whatsoever, much less any experience in software design and development. Her communications skills are those of a teen-age girl, and she treats applicants like children. Worst, she is unilaterally making hiring decisions with none of that claimed rigor or staff involvement.

Betsy Spang's entire post-college career comprises one school year spent as a student teacher, under adult supervision, in an elementary school. That's it. Whether through relation to an investor or simply being in the right place at the right time, Betsy is now the "HR manager" and recruiter for Seilevel. Although Betsy has insultingly poor communication skills and even struggles to interpret standard resumes, her authority to make unilateral pass/fail decisions about applicants is entirely the fault of Seilevel. That's why the company is listed here in the Recruiter Hall of Shame.
