Jorge Marquez - Square Domain, Chile

Infuriation: Lying about sourcing, concealing location, refusal to follow up his own "ASAP" request

UPDATED: The SquareDomain site sets off malware warnings in McAfee antivirus software. Only visit that site with this in mind.

This trickster is proof that recruiters lie obviously and needlessly. In his first email to the applicant who nominated him for the Hall of Shame, Marquez claimed to have the applicant's resume "on file" even though the plain-language header in the email showed that it came through Indeed.com. (Strike 1)

Marquez asked for a phone number, even though it was on the applicant's Indeed.com resume (Strike 2) "right away" so that "one of our account managers" could call the applicant "ASAP." There was no contact information in the email itself, absolutely nothing such as a signature line, and the so-called company's website has no contact information at all, not even a location. (Strike 3) In fact, neither Marquez himself nor his so-called company -- actually just himself behind a computer -- are listed on LinkedIn, nor anywhere else on the Web. (Strike 4)

You know what happened, of course. No call came, despite the applicant's diligent follow-up two times with the phone number and offer of immediate availability. The applicant thought to use WhoIs to trace the so-called company website origin, which is in Chile. (Imagine trying to resolve a pay dispute!) When the applicant called out Marquez on this, Marquez had the oblivious nerve to say, "Yes, there is no mystery, I am located in Chile (anyone can see the IP)..." (Strike 5. Yes, this so-called company and Marquez should have been out before stepping up to the plate.)

Oh, yes, Marquez finally claimed that the "client" had changed their minds. Of course.

Ultimately, the hilarious proof of Marquez' cluelessness came after the applicant cursed him as a lying waste of time, and Marquez in his idiocy asked, "I guess this means you do not want us to keep your resume for future references?"

You can't write this stuff as fiction because it's too unbelievable.
